So this writer was just on Facebook and saw that one of my friends posted about how she still has one last final tonight. Everyone commented wishing her good luck and giving her words of encouragement. One boy said, “You got this! Beat it, beat it like a wife.” It had 4 likes. So disgusted that people think comments like that are ok. There is nothing funny about domestic violence.

It’s called Cooties and you can pick it up at the newspaper shelves in the Little Building, Colonial Building, Walker Building, or Piano Row. Alternatively, if you should choose to venture forth, there are copes at the Papercut Zine Library in Inman Square.

It’s also the last day of the 16 Days of Activism. To celebrate, the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women needs help! Donate here, if you can spare some cash. Every dollar goes towards helping survivors of violence geared towards women. Or if you’re a broke college student like us, donate your efforts to the cause. Can violence against women end?
This is a difficult question to answer. Yes, violence against women can, and should, end. But when can it end? If this writer had it her way, it would end now. Right this second. But nothing in the world works that way. Violence against women can only end if everyone is educated on the subject and learns why it needs to be stopped. The media needs to stop portraying it as something that is...

The first documented Take Back the Night marches occurred in the mid 1970s. Over 2000 women marched to reclaim their security during the firsts of these processions. This year, as the Co-Chairs of Kappa Gamma Chi’s 16th annual Take Back the Night, we want to both bring back national…

What does security mean to you?
This year’s 16 Days of Activism theme is From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let’s Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women! Obviously, militarism is a bad thing, but it also encourages some forms of masculine violence against women. Militarism affects the lives of women all over the world, and violence against women can’t end until there is peace.

Hollaback to end street harassment!
We’ve all probably gone through this at least once: you’re walking down the street, on your way to class or work, minding your own business, and some bro whistles at you and makes some kind of comment on how good you look or something of the sort. These comments are stupid and annoying, not flattering like the bros would like to think. This harassment needs to end. If you have ever...

It's World AIDS Day!
This year’s theme is “Getting to Zero.” That means zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, zero AIDS-related deaths, and zero tolerance for gender-based violence. And what’s the best way to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS and prevent it? You guessed it… KNOWLEDGE! So take this quiz and see if you’re in the minority of young people who are educated about...
